Take the Plunge!
How often have you found yourself frozen by indecision? Being an entrepreneur allows you to steer your own ship, but sometimes all those choices can feel overwhelming, particularly when you're determined to get things just right.
When should I make that phone call? Should I show my samples during lunch or by appointment? What if my prospect is away? These are important decisions, but too much time spent thinking about them, leaves too little time for acting on them. I know that the take the plunge! approach releases that stress of perfection and moves things forward.
An opportunity to take the plunge! came in my own professional life recently when I was featured, along with two other entrepreneurs, in a cover story for Westport Magazine. It was a coveted moment in the spotlight that I was thrilled to be a part of.
When the magazine hit the newsstands, I felt an urge to reach out and thank the people who had helped make it possible. Using my take the plunge! mantra, my co-cover girls and I took action. We mailed invitations for a thank-you tea party knowing that if we put it off the moment would pass and the opportunity to show our appreciation would be lost.
More often than not, it's fear of the unknown that keeps you in "almost-ready" mode. Not knowing exactly how things will turn out can be scary. But, in the absence of a crystal ball, a leap of faith can be your best bet. Take that new idea and run-it-up-the-flagpole- to-see-if-anyone-salutes. Getting it out there puts you in the running for success. And, if you don't happen to get the results you'd hoped for, you'll still have gained vital information to guide you towards your next move.
What do you really have to lose? So go ahead. Take the plunge! -today!
