How to Respond to Your "Gremlins"

GremlinAs a home-based business owner it’s so easy to begin making up stories. Stories like...“No one wants my services. I’m annoying this prospect. The company that owes me money has run out and I’ll never get paid. I’m not that good.”

The “gremlins”—as I like to call them—come out occasionally and tell me I’m not enough. I know I’m not alone. At my recent Get Real program colleague Brad Isaacs and I heard the same tale from many of our participants. In fact, all of the participants had their own “gremlins” telling them they weren’t smart, talented or worthy enough to deserve something in their lives.

By the end of our time together the group recognized that there was something they could do about it. Read more about this discovery and tell me how you deal with your gremlins on my blog.

Negativity is often born out of isolation.  With that in mind let’s talk about the importance of networking – online and offline.

Networking Tips

Tip #1 - Follow-up on those business cards

I enjoy networking, especially when it’s with other women business owners. As enjoyable as it is, to really benefit from networking you have to follow-up. So rather than stuffing all the business cards in your desk drawer, create a system for following-up. Read my step-by-step system for some ideas and share some of your own tips.

Tip #2 - Make time for online networking

I attended a great talk on online social networking a few weeks ago by Peter Shankman. The big question on the minds of most in the audience was, “When am I supposed to do this?” Everyone’s days are already filled to the brim. How do you make time for something when you don’t really understand its value?

I’ve been dabbling in LinkedIn for about a year now and Facebook for less than six months. It’s just beginning to feel like there’s some potential for my life and business. Peter reminded us that any networking takes time. So where do you find the time? Take a look at what I decided to let go of so I could commit to exploring this opportunity to network. Feel free to share your online networking experiences.
